2. Great site! Great reviews! Are you all (Heather, Temple, etc) Anglo-Indians??? or ‘white’-Australians??? (Anglo-Saxon)? – just like to know because it’s hard to believe you watch so many Indian movies!!! Why aren’t there any reviews on English movies?

   • Hi. No none of us are Indian or Anglo-Indian. It is really hard to find useful reviews (in English) of Indian films on sites other than blogs so we decided to join in blogging and add our own opinions to the mix. I’ve written about one English language film, but we all mostly do watch Indian films so this blog reflects that interest. Cheers, Temple

       I’m originally from Ireland so haven’t really watched very many Australian films at all. I’ve been in Australia for a few years though so I really should make more of an effort!
       Mainly my interest is in Indian films, although I do watch quite a few European (mainly French and German) films as well, so occasionally I may write about one of those 🙂

3. Wow….!! You guyz really have done a great job by writin in so many reviews. The standout feature of your reviews is that you have a completely different perspective of looking at films. And your insights are really deep considerin that you dont know the language or the culture down here. May be you get around so much, that helps.
   I would like to thank you for giving such good reviews and your eye for detail that are not really seen or appreciated by the normal crowd.
   Please do watch many tamil and telugu films and many more reviews. I hope this is just the start and you will come up many good stuff in coming times.

4. Hi Temple and Heather! I am a regular follower of your blog and all your reviews are detailed and flawless! Kindly post reviews of some movies which i feel deserve a mention in your blog: Agni Natchathiram, Geethanjali(Telugu) and Bodyguard. The first two movies are directed by the noted director Mani Ratnam. The third movie is originally a successful Malayalam movie. It was later remade into other Indian languages and all the remakes were also successful: Kaavalan(Tamil), Bodyguard(Hindi), Bodyguard(Kannada) and Bodyguard(Telugu). Thanks!

     Thanks for your recommendations. I’ve seen the Tamil and Hindi versions of Bodyguard, and didn’t think either was anything special, so perhaps I should try the original Malayalam version. I have Geethanjali in the pile of films to watch so may get to it soon 🙂

5. Glad to see the work of yours in this part of the cinema world. I have been actively reading some of your reviews in the recent past and also very much impressed considering tat you dont belong to India.
   Being an avid fan of Quality cinema making in the European countries(France,Italy,Germany), I would be really happy if you could suggest or write reviews of more good European films in the near future.

6. Hi Heather & Temple,

   It was by sheer chance that i came across your blogs & i have to admit that both of you have done a fantastic job of dissecting Indian movies given how difficult our movies are to understand(especially to the western lot).

   Being a malayali, i’d love to see more reviews of malayalam movies. If you belong to the category who choose your movies based on strong story lines & tight screenplays, you should probably watch more malayalam & bengali movies.

   Look forward to see more entries.

   Really enjoy ur reviews. Just one grouse..i hardly find u guys reviewing malayalam & bengali movies. These two industries have produced quite a few critically appealing yet entertaining movies (in my opinion). If ur a fan of ‘middle-stream’ Indian movies, u can probably start with malayalam movies of 1980s.

   I look forward to see more reviews of these languages.

   • Hi Sanjay – There are so many really good blogs that review and discuss Bengali and Malayalam films already 🙂 If you haven’t already, suggest you take a look at Totally Filmi, Filmi Contrast, Avakai Biryani and Beth Loves Bollywood for starters. I watch many many more films than I ever choose to write about. I like to include Telugu films on a regular basis as they are often under-represented in English language reviews. Cheers, Temple

     I’ve put a few Malayalam reviews up here but I don’t watch many Benglai films at all. I’ve been enjoying some of the recent Malayalam films, especially by some of the new directors and now that I’ve found new releases showing here in Melbourne there may be a few more reviews 🙂

   I’m from Kerala.. I’ve recently found this awesome blog while searching for manichitratazhu Blu-ray version and I started following instantly.. Good reviews and insights.. Well done!.. Have you watched newly released Malayalam movie “iyobinte pustakam”.. Starring fahad fazil, Lal, jayasurya, isha sherwani, lena etc.. Good movie.. So thought recommending it.. All the best to both of you

     Thank you for your kind words and thanks too for the mivie recommendation. I don’t think Iyobinte Pusthakam got released here – at least not by any of the distributors I know about. It sounds very interesting and I will look out for it on DVD for sure 🙂

      • Cool, but pls do watch ‘Aha Naa Pellanta’ 1987 Telugu. It was the first movie of comedian Brahmanandam (Brahmi). It gave Rajendra Prasad stardom in the comedy genre. Kota Srinivas Rao is brilliant in the movie. And you need subtitles to watch this movie, the conversations are just so much fun.

11. Was pleasantly surprised with your review of Beru. Most kannadigas wouldn’t have heard about this movie, watching it would be out of question. You piked my interest to watch this movie. Thanks….

      • Heather, Sure will. Few kannada movies i would recommend you give it a try are “Accident”, “Minchina Oota” and for certain “Ondanondu kaladalli”. All 3 have Shankar naag starring in them. I consider them classics, but tastes may differ.
